Broncos Cross Country Teams Finish Second at MW Championships

FRESNO, Calif. – The Boise State men's and women's cross country teams concluded the Mountain West Cross Country Championships with two second-place finishes, Friday.

With both squads finishing runner-up to New Mexico, the men's team recorded 72 points, while the women's team registered 41. This marks the third-consecutive year in which the women's team notched a second-place finish.

Individually, Kaiya Robertson was the first Bronco to cross the finish line for the women. She took second place, recorded two points, and posted a time of 19:42.3. She beat her 2024 time by over 40 seconds.

Additionally, the women's team had three other student-athletes who concluded the race in the top 10. Amit Koma (20:06.4), Bianca Boehnke (20:11.3) and Abby Kendrick (20:12.9) finished eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively, and totaled 27 points.

For the men, Meshack Kuyo finished in third and tallied three points. Competing in the MW championships for the first time in his collegiate career, Kuyo ended with a time of 22:57.7.

Posting a time of 23:02.4, Alex Thompson tallied six points and placed three spots behind Kuyo for sixth place. Patrick Kiprop (23:09.1), Trent Wigod (23:44.4) and Jack Sheesley (24:00.1) collectively registered 63 points.

Notables
  • The women finished in second place for the ninth time since joining the Mountain West. It's the third-consecutive year they've been the runner-up.
  • Friday's result marks the second time—and first since 2021—that the men have placed second in the MW championships.
  • Before Friday, the Boise State men's and women's teams have never finished second in the conference championships in the same year.
  • In total, both team's combined for 113 points and had seven student-athletes place in the top 10.
  • Kaiya Robertson was the first Bronco to cross the finish line in the women's 6k. She posted a time of 19:42.3, over 40 seconds faster than her 2024 time.
  • Meshack Kuyo, who competed in the MW championships for the first time in his collegiate career, ended with a time of 22:57.7.
  • Amit Koma (20:06.4) and Nanette Novak (20:20.3) and Eliisa Marshall (21:15.6) recorded personal bests in the 6k.
