Broncos Extend Winning Streak to Four

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State extended its winning streak to four, defeating Wichita State, 62-59, on Tuesday night inside ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos (4-1) were led by Drew Fielder, who scored a game-high 17 points. He shot 7-for-13 from the field and added six rebounds in the victory.

Andrew Meadow tallied fifth-consecutive double-digit scoring effort and recorded 15 points, five rebounds and two assists. Dylan Andrews stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, four boards, seven assists and two steals.

Wichita State (3-1) had two players who scored in double figures. Kenyon Giles notched 15 points and Michael Gray Jr. added 12.

In the first half of Tuesday's game, Boise State and Wichita State combined for just 59 points. Both teams made 11 field goals and shot under 40 percent from the field.

Spanning the opening 4:09, there were only two made field goals and five total points. The Broncos missed seven-straight shots at the outset and trailed 5-0 upon reaching the 16-minute media timeout.

Boise State collected its first field goal nearly seven minutes into the game. At the 13:02 mark, Andrews connected with Fielder, who converted on a fastbreak transition dunk.

With just under 10 minutes remaining in the period, Boise State captured its first lead of the evening. Meadow and Andrews knocked down consecutive three-pointers, turning a five-point deficit into a one-point lead.

The Broncos' lead ultimately swelled to seven in the frame. Meadow paced all players with 11 first-half points, knocking down four shots, including three long balls.

To conclude the half, Andrews netted a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining. After surrendering the first seven points of the game, Boise State outscored the Shockers by 12 and led, 32-27, at the intermission.

Wichita State scored the first three points of the second half, but the Broncos responded by tallying eight of the next 11. Boise State eventually expanded its advantage to 15 with 12:20 to play.

Facing a 50-35 deficit, the Shockers promptly responded. Wichita State went on a 13-2 to slice the Broncos' lead to four.

Weathering the run by the Shockers, Boise State never relinquished the lead. The Broncos never trailed in the second half and wound up leading for over 29 minutes.

Wichita State had a shot to tie the game at the buzzer, but didn't knock down the long three-point attempt. Boise State held the Shockers to 37 percent shooting in the game and won 62-59.
