Broncos Conclude Fall Season with Successful Showing in Alabama
11/9/2025 6:44:00 PM | Women's Beach Volleyball
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Boise State's Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden finished in the top half of the bracket for the second consecutive season at the AVCA National Pairs Tournament.
The duo finished the three-day event in a tie for 31st place, a year after finishing a program-best 25th. Anderson and Wolden's performance marks the only two occurrences in program history a Bronco duo has finished in the top half of the high-profile bracket.
The pair started with an opening-round victory over UNC Wilmington's Gabby Lapata and Grace Sistrunk. The tandem then nearly pulled off an upset over the sixth-seeded UCLA pair, Cassie Dodd and Alexa Fernandez, falling 15-21, 21-15, 15-13. The tandem lost the remaining three duals – all that finished by three points or less in a third set - to finish in a tie for 31st place.
Elsewhere in the bracket, Allyson Alden and Abbie Wolf responded to an opening-round loss by defeating North Alabama's Audrey Gauthier and Selma Robinson in straight sets. The duo lost their next two matches, before rounding out the tournament with a straight-set victory over Florida Gulf Coast's Alexis Keeter and Ava Lilliquist to secure a 45th place finish.
The remainder of the team competed at the Saint Mary's Pairs Tournament in Moraga, Calif. Avery Allen and Addison Moss were one of two pairs that finished 3-1 on the weekend, alongside Avery Bowidowicz and Summer McCann.
Quotables
"There weren't any matches that they weren't in. We had a lot of losses that came down to the wire in the third set. We could be sharper with our fundamentals and some decision-making down the stretch, but the reality is that they went toe-to-toe with some of the top pairs in the country. It's a good indicator that we can compete with anyone across the net." – head coach Alex Venardos.
"Saint Mary's was a good tournament for everyone to step up and have a new role. We showed a lot of composure playing at a high level. Summer [McCann] and Avery [Bowidowicz] as well as Avery [Allen] and Addison [Moss] showed a lot of consistency throughout the weekend." – Venardos
"The fall is hard because it's hard to separate the results from the process. It's an ongoing conversation but we should be satisfied with our process this fall. If anything, we should know that the process works and use it as fuel to be competitive in the spring semester." - Venardos
