COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State sophomore Carson Baker has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 12. This is Baker's first MW Player of the Week honor and the second this year for Boise State.
The Charleston, South Carolina, native played a big role in Boise State's upset victory over 22nd-ranked Michigan State last Sunday in Boise. He played No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles against the Spartans.
Baker rallied from a disappointing set one tiebreaker defeat in singles to battle back and sweep the last two sets to claim the victory, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, over 43rd-ranked Matthew Forbes.
His singles win clinched the match for the Broncos, who won 4-3 over No. 22 Michigan State.
Baker improved to a team-best 13-6 overall in singles this year.
Boise State will be back in action this weekend when the Broncos travel to Wichita, Kansas, to face the Wichita State Shockers and Denver Pioneers.
