ST. GEORGE, Utah – Makenzie Butt hit a pair of home runs to lead Boise State past San Diego 9-1 in a five-inning game, Friday.
Â
It was the second two-home run game for the freshman, who drove in five. Junior Hollie Farmer and senior Mykenzie Hanna added long balls for the Broncos (9-3) as all nine runs scored courtesy of home runs.
Â
"Our offense was solid again today," head coach Justin Shults said. "Abby Dowell was good in the circle and we are going to need that as we continue to build."
Â
Butt's first homer was a mammoth blast to left with a runner aboard in the first and gave the Broncos a 2-1 lead. Farmer's first homer of the season was a solo drive in the second to make the score 3-1.
Â
Butt drilled a three-run home run in the fourth and Hanna homered to right with two on in the fifth after she had just missed a round tripper down the left field line earlier in the at bat.
Â
Dowell (3-1) went 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief to earn the victory in the circle.
Â
Boise State will face UC San Diego (9:30 a.m.) and Weber State (noon), Saturday.
Â
NOTES

*Mykenzie Hanna's home run was the 38th of her career, moving her into sole possession of third place all-time at Boise State.
*Hanna scored three runs and has 120 in her career, fourth-most in Bronco history.
