
Broncos Nearly Pull Off Dramatic Comeback Against Colorado State

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's basketball nearly pulled off a 15-point comeback, eventually falling 67-61 to Colorado State Saturday afternoon in ExtraMile Arena.
Trailing 53-38 entering the fourth quarter, the Broncos (16-10, 5-7 Mountain West) got within two points of the Rams (15-7, 8-3 MW) with a little over a minute remaining. Boise State got a stop on the defensive end on its next possession, but missed a potential game-tying basket on the offensive side.
The Blue and Orange fouled quickly, and Colorado State went 1-of-2 from the free throw line to hold a 61-58 lead with 33 seconds remaining. Mya Hansen missed a stepback 3-pointer and Elodie Lalotte failed to convert an offensive putback, forcing Boise State to once again send Colorado State to the free throw line. The Rams finished the game 4-of-4 from the charity stripe to stave off the comeback attempt.
Tatum Thompson put forth a valiant performance in the loss, finishing with 21 points and 14 rebounds. The junior shot 8-of-13 from the field, 4-of-5 from the free throw line and made her one 3-point attempt, while also recording two blocks and two steals on the defensive end. Hansen added 11 points and four assists in the effort.
The two teams battled back and forth at the start, with the game knotted at eight through the first five minutes of action. Boise State struggled taking care of the ball in the opening frame, committing seven first-quarter turnovers and Colorado State ended the stanza on a 9-0 run to take a 17-8 lead after the first.
The Rams opened the second quarter with two consecutive baskets to extend its lead to 13. Alyssa Christensen broke the scoring drought with back-to-back 3-pointers, but the Rams' Emma Ronsiek scored six-straight points on the other end to give Colorado State a 27-14 advantage at the media timeout.
The Broncos didn't back down. Jayda Clark dribbled into a 3-pointer, and Thompson followed with an old-fashioned 3-point play to cut the Bronco deficit to seven. The Rams converted a layup with two seconds left in the half to take a 33-24 lead to the locker room.
Thompson contributed six points in the third quarter for the Blue and Orange, but Colorado State managed to extend its lead to 15 midway through the period. Natalie Pasco cut the deficit to 12 with a 3-pointer from the wing, but the Rams answered with a 3-pointer of their own and held a 53-38 lead heading into the final period.

Hansen converted a floater with 2:24 left to cut the deficit to five, and Elodie Lalotte followed with a layup to make it a one-possession game with 1:45 to play. The Rams went 1-of-2 from the free throw line on their next possession, setting up a Pasco jump shot to make it a 60-58 contest.
