BOISE, Idaho – Brooklynn Pettis homered twice and drove in five runs as Boise State defeated Nevada 11-8 at Dona Larsen Park, Friday night in the opener of a three-game Mountain West series.

Mykenzie Hanna also homered for the Broncos (22-9, 1-3 MW), who collected a baker's dozen hits, seven of which were of the extra-base variety.

Nevada (21-8, 0-1) took advantage of two Boise State errors in the top of the first to score three times against Bronco starter Abby Dowell (6-3).

Boise State responded with three runs in its half of the first. Sophia Knight wasted no time extending a school-record 33-game hitting streak as she doubled off the wall in left.

With two outs, Makenzie Butt ripped a single to left to score Knight and Pettis followed with a two-run home run to knot the contest at 3.

The Wolf Pack scored once in the second to take a 4-3 lead, but the Broncos came right back with a four-run rally in the bottom half of the frame.

Quinn Southerland's two-run double put Boise State on top 5-4 and Butt and Pettis delivered back-to-back two-out doubles for a 7-4 advantage.

Hanna's blast led off the fourth and Sydney Groves added an RBI-ground out to make the score 9-4.

Nevada chipped away with single runs in the fifth and sixth to close the gap to 9-6. Pettis stretched the lead to 11-6 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

The Wolf Pack tallied a pair of runs in the seventh before Julianne Rose, the third Boise State pitcher, came out of the bullpen to record two outs for her third save.

The series continues, Saturday at 2 p.m.
