THIBODAUX, La.  – Boise State clinched the Southland Conference Regular Season Championship on Sunday by winning all six duals of the conference midseason tournament.
After winning its first five contests of the three-day event, the Broncos (12-9, 8-0 SLC) defeated three-time defending champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-2, in a de facto championship match in the final dual of the weekend to secure the regular season crown. Boise State's title marks the first regular season championship in program history and secures the top seed in the 2025 SLC Beach Volleyball Championship, which takes place April 23-25 in New Orleans.
Entering the midseason tournament 2-0 in conference duals after defeating Houston Christian and San Jose State on Monday, Allyson Alden and Sharli O'Neil picked up the first victory of the weekend by winning in straight sets against Stephen F. Austin from the No. 2 position. Emilia Guerra-Acuña and Elli Wolthuis made the score 2-0 with a two-set victory from court four, while Addison Moss and Lily Patock won on court five as Boise State claimed a 3-2 victory over the Lumberjacks. The Broncos completed the first day of the tournament with a sweep over New Orleans, with all five Bronco duos winning in straight sets.
The Broncos opened the second day of competition against Southeastern Louisiana. Guerra-Acuña and Wolthuis secured the first Boise State point with a straight-set win on court four, while Alden and O'Neil added to the advantage with a win on court two. The Lady Lions didn't back down, forcing three-set matches at the No. 1 and 3 positions, but Moss and Patock secured a 21-14, 25-23 victory from court five to clinch the dual for the Broncos. Boise State ended the second day with its third-consecutive sweep, defeating each pair from McNeese State in straight sets.
Boise State opened the final day of competition with its four consecutive sweep against the host school, Nicholls State, and setting a program record for most consecutive sweeps in program history. The win also moved the Sandy Broncos to a 7-0 record in conference play, setting up a showdown with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to determine a regular season champion.Â
Avery Allen and Abbie Wolf secured the first point against the Islanders, winning 21-18, 21-18 on court four. After narrowly dropping the first set on court two, 23-21, Alden and O'Neil responded with a 22-20 second-set victory to force a deciding set. Trailing 9-6, the duo rattled off nine of the next 10 points to win 15-10 and secure a 2-0 lead for the Blue and Orange.
Moss and Patock lost the first set on court five, but battled back in the second. The pair withstood nine separate match points, but ultimately fell 30-28 to concede a point to the Islanders. Moments later, Guerra-Acuña and Wolthuis clinched the dual – and the regular season title – with a 21-18, 21-16 win from court three.
"We've had this theme all year of being able to stay composed during high-pressure moments when we're uncomfortable. We want to thrive in that discomfort. The fact that we had a lot of discomfort in these matches shows how much we're buying into dominating that element of the game. We were able to compose ourselves and take a breath in those situations which really showed tremendous growth and ultimately helped us become regular season champions." – Voigt
