Alden, O’Neil Clinched Deciding Point in Thrilling Three-Set Match

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State beach volleyball pulled off a thrilling 3-2 victory over Arizona to wrap up an undefeated home weekend of competition at the Boise State Beach Volleyball Complex.

After grabbing a 2-0 lead following the first flight, the Wildcats, who are receiving votes in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll, secured two straight-set victories to even the contest at two. The dual came down to the top court, where Allyson Alden and Sharli O'Neil pulled off a thrilling 15-21, 21-12, 15-8 match to clinch the dual for the Broncos (19-10).

The victory marks the 20-straight home win for Boise State, a feat that dates back to the 2021 season. The dual also wraps up the regular season for the Blue and Orange, who will enter postseason play having won 15 of their last 16 matchups.

Emilia Guerra-Acuña and Elli Wolthuis completed their undefeated weekend against Arizona, winning 21-18, 21-12 from the No. 4 position to put the Blue and Orange on the board. After splitting the first two sets, Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden fought off three different match points to win 20-18 in the final chapter of a thrilling three-set match to give Boise State a critical 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats answered the call. After winning the first set 23-21, Arizona's No. 3 pair of Madeline Walker and Ashlyn Zilliken took care of business in the second set to put the Wildcats on the board. Arizona also won in straight sets from the No. 5 position, sending the dual's outcome to the top court.

After dropping the first set 21-15, Alden and O'Neil rallied back to win the second 21-12 and send the dual's decision – and Boise State's home-winning streak – down to the final set. The duo dominated during the third frame, ultimately winning 15-8 to secure the victory for the Broncos.

Boise State opened the day with a sweep against Portland, earning early straight-sweeps from Anderson and Wolden on court two and Guerra-Acuña and Wolthuis from court four.  Avery Allen and Abbie Wolf secured the dual from court three, while the Broncos snagged wins from the No. 1 and 5 positions to secure their seventh sweep of the season.

Quotables
"We should be really proud about how well we're playing right now. The fact that we're going into our conference tournament having won 15 of our last 16 duals is insane. We have been improving on the little things and it has paid off. It really shows how much this group has committed to getting better and staying consistent. I'm really excited that we are peaking at the right time." – head coach Allison Voigt

"Winning 20-straight home duals is an incredible accomplishment. We really take pride in where we play and where we practice. We always want to protect our home and protect our courts. We've had so many great battles here and I'm really proud of that accomplishment." - Voigt

"A big reason we've had so much success at our own place is because of Bronco Nation. They bring us so much great energy and we just thrive off of that. I know I keep saying it but it's such an important thing and I want to make sure our fans know they are an important piece about what we're trying to do." - Voigt
