Broncos Blank Aztecs in Series Opener

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State freshman Olivia Bauer tossed a four-hit shutout and Boise State defeated San Diego State 9-0 in six innings, Thursday night.
 
Bauer struck out three, walked one and needed just 73 pitches for her first-career shutout.
 
Five Broncos (29-15, 8-6 Mountain West) collected two hits, including Leah McAnally. The sophomore catcher's two-run home run sealed the run-rule win.
 
Freshman Makenzie Butt added to her Boise State single-season RBI record with a run-scoring ground out in the first.
 
In the second, two runs scored on an error and Butt capped a three-run frame with an RBI-single.
 
Sydney Groves delivered a pinch-hit, RBI-double in the fourth. Brooklynn Pettis drilled a solo home run in the fifth and Quinn Southerland plated a run with a ground out later in the inning.
 
The series continues Friday at 6 p.m.
 
NOTES
  • Boise State recorded seven RBI to set a school record with 335 this season.
  • Olivia Bauer improved to 7-2 with her first-career shutout and second complete game.
  • Makenzie Butt raised her Boise State single-season record RBI total to 65.
  • Sophia Knight was 2-for-3 and tied the Boise State single-season record with 88 hits.
  • Knight's hit total is tied for third in Mountain West history.
  • Knight moved into a tie for eighth on Boise State's career hit list with 173.
