
Broncos Shut Down Aggies in Series Opener

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State freshman Olivia Bauer stymied a powerful Utah State offense and the Broncos defeated the Aggies 7-1 in the series opener, Thursday.

Bauer (8-4) went 6 1/3 innings and gave up one run on five hits against a Utah State (26-23, 11-9 Mountain West) offense that came in batting .369 and averaging 7.68 runs per game in conference play.

The Broncos (31-20, 9-11) gave up a run in the top of the first and rallied in the second.
Â
Sydney Groves recorded a one-out, pinch hit single and Quinn Southerland reached on a swinging bunt. Both runners moved up on a ground out and Sophia Knight plated two with a single to give Boise State a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, Mykenzie Hanna and Mackenzie Butt walked with one out. Brooklynn Pettis blooped a single inside the left field line to plate Hanna and Leah McAnally followed with a three-run home run for a 6-1 lead.

McAnally added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to complete the scoring.

Boise State and Utah State continue their three-game series Friday at 6 p.m.
