
Boise State to Open Fall Season at Home

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State women's tennis will open its 2025 fall season with the eighth annual Barb Chandler Classic at the Appleton Tennis Center, Sept. 26-28. Matches will begin each day at 9 a.m., with a second round immediately to follow on both Friday and Saturday. This is the Broncos' lone home tournament of the fall.
WHO'S IN: Stella Beldiman, Carla Grignac, Allison Isaacs, Ryan Kershner, Lorelyz Marruffo, Ella Piron, Tereza Polakova, Paula Schaefer and Masa Viriant will compete in the three-day tournament.
THE FIELD AND FORMAT: Idaho State, Montana State and Weber State will travel to Boise to face the Broncos in the mini-dual competition. Each school will divide its team into pairs, with each duo competing against pairs from other schools. The teams will first play a doubles match, then split to compete in singles. The duo that wins two of the three matches (one doubles and two singles) will advance to the next round.
NEW & FAMILIAR FACES: The Broncos return six of their 10 players from last season while welcoming two freshmen (Beldiman and Grignac) and two transfers (Isaacs from Old Dominion and Polakova from Kansas State).
COACH OF THE YEAR: Head coach Beck Roghaar, entering his 16th season at the helm, was named Mountain West and ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. The former marked his third conference coach of the year honor, while the latter was the first regional recognition of his career, making him the second coach in program history to receive the award.
2024 FALL SUCCESS: During the 2024 fall campaign, Boise State captured singles and doubles titles at the Mountain West Fall Qualifiers, won singles at the ITA Mountain Region Championship and reached the NCAA Singles Championship. All of these accomplishments came from standout junior Zdena Safarova.
2025 SPRING HIGHLIGHTS: Boise State claimed its first Mountain West Championship and seventh overall conference title in program history, returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 and defeated No. 22 Baylor in the first round for the second-largest upset in program history.
ALL-MW RETURNERS: Safarova earned All-Mountain West honors in singles and doubles, and was also named MW Tournament MVP and MW All-Tournament No. 1 Singles. Schaefer earned All-Tournament No. 4 Singles, while Viriant was named All-Tournament No. 6 Singles.
FAN INFORMATION: Admission to all three days of the tournament is free, and complimentary parking will be available all weekend. On Friday and Sunday, fans can park in the west stadium lot between Albertsons Stadium and ExtraMile Arena. On Saturday, parking will be available in the Brady Street Garage. Use the kiosks and select the women's tennis option.

ABOUT BARB: Barb Chandler, a three-time U.S. Open quarterfinalist and one of the top-ranked female tennis players in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s, is known as "Idaho's First Lady of Tennis." After her professional career, she devoted herself to fostering a tennis community in Boise. In 2013, she was inducted into the United States Tennis Association's Intermountain Regional Hall of Fame in recognition of her impact on the sport.
