Thompson Guides Broncos to Victory

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's basketball defeated San Jose State 96-62 at ExtraMile Arena on Saturday afternoon.
 
Boise State (17-5, 8-3 Mountain West) notched its seventh-straight conference win and fourth-straight home win as Tatum Thompson collected a career-high 28 points. Dani Bayes also earned a double-double.
 
Libby Hutton opened the scoring with a layup after a pass from Tatum Thompson, starting the Broncos on a 14-0 run. Thompson accounted for 10 of those points, with Bayes adding two. Allie Cummins put the Spartans (3-19, 1-10) on the board and ended the run with an and-one jumper. Amira Brown fired off a triple at the 5:43 mark, which Bayes followed nine seconds later with her own bucket to start another 17-0 run for Boise State. San Jose State went without a point for over three minutes until Stella Sgro nailed a 3-pointer.
 
Boise State led 39-14 after the first quarter. Tatum Thompson and Bayes both reached double figures to pace the Broncos.
 
The second quarter opened with a Brown jumper, followed by a Pasco 3-pointer. Pasco scored the next field goal over a minute and a half later before Hutton followed with a layup. Carla Fuster notched the first points in over two minutes for the Spartans. The quarter ended on a Stella Sgro three, as the Broncos led 56-31 heading into the break.
 
Maya Anderson converted a layup to begin the third quarter, but Pasco responded with a triple. The Spartans were scoreless for over three minutes before going on a 6-0 run with 3-pointers from Anderson and Brown. The run was ended by a Pasco layup and Boise State led 77-50 heading into the final quarter.
 
Tatum Thompson collected her 28th point, her career high, to open the fourth quarter with a jumper. The Broncos then made three consecutive field goals, with jumpers from Harms and Mason Borcherding and a triple from Josee Steadman. Emily Howard joined the scoring with a jumper, while Keirra Thompson knocked down a 3-pointer at the 1:58 mark. Harms capped the game with a three to seal the 96-62 win.
