LAS VEGAS — Boise State men's golf captured its second team and individual championship of the 2025-26 season, claiming first place in the Lake Las Vegas Invitational.
The event marks the 14th time in program history in which the Broncos have captured a team and individual championship in the same event. The last time Boise State accomplished the feat multiple times in the same season was 1992-93 in the Portland State and Boise State invitationals.
Led by head coach David Trainor, who secured his fourth victory at the helm, the Broncos notched the 20th team tournament win in team annals. Boise State's last first-place finish was Oct. 14-15, 2025 in the Oregon State Invitational.
Taking place at Reflection Bay Golf Club, the Broncos shot an 841 (-23) and totaled a 283 (-5), 282 (-6) and 276 (-12) across the three-day event. Boise State's collective score in relation to par is tied for the team's lowest in the fall and spring seasons (Palouse Collegiate | Sept. 9-10, 2025 | 829, -23).
The Broncos won the invite by four strokes and bested the 11-team field. Louisiana finished second at 19-under, while Coastal Carolina and Northern Illinois tied for third at -17.
Ending the first two rounds in first place at 11-under, the Broncos had their best performance of the tournament on Day 3. Boise State's 276 in the final 18 surpassed the team's combined score of the first 36 holes.
Walking away with his eighth individual crown (six tournaments, two duals), Cole Rueck carded a 200 (-16) and won the event outright by four strokes. His total score is tied for the third-lowest mark in a three-round event in team history.
Rueck shot a 64 (-8) in Round 2, setting a personal best for a single round. His previous low was a 66 (-6) in the Loyola Intercollegiate last February.
Notching his fifth top-10 finish of the year, Rueck now has 15 for his career at Boise State. That number is tied for the second-most such finishes by a Bronco in team history, with Merritt reaching that total from 2006-08.
Shooting a 212 (-4) and climbing 12 spots on Day 3, Reese Knox ended the tournament tied for 13th and captured his third top-25 placement of the season and fifth of his career. He set a single-round personal best, carding a 68 (-4) on Day 3.
In his first collegiate action, freshman Ryan Shepherd posted a 212 (-4) as an individual and shot under par in two of his three rounds. Chase Gorder placed in the top 25 for the first time in his career, ending the tournament at one-under.
Boise State's next team tournament will be the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on March 9-10. The event will take place in Aiken, S.C. at Palmetto Golf Club.
