Boise State Splits Saturday Matches

BOISE, Idaho – No. 61 Boise State men's tennis split its matches Saturday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center, falling 4-1 to No. 38 Santa Clara before a 4-3 victory over DePaul.
 
#38 Santa Clara
No. 38 Santa Clara (11-2) opened the day by claiming the doubles point against Boise State (14-6) to take an early lead heading into singles play.
 
Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson started strong for the Broncos, defeating the No. 27 ranked pair Luca Bluett and John Kim 6-1 on court one. Santa Clara responded by winning the next two doubles matches to secure the point. Valentin Faure and Alexander Watanabe Eriksson topped Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert 6-2 on court three, while Tiago Boschmans and Luca Lemaitre Vilchis closed doubles play with a 6-3 win over Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist on court two.
 
Bluett gave Santa Clara its first singles victory, defeating Idriss Haddouch 7-6 (4), 6-1 on court six. Tallakson answered for Boise State with a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (0) win over Eriksson on court one. Vilchis notched a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Aronson on court two. Lukas Maskow then clinched the match for the Broncos with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 win against Soderqvist on court four.
 
DePaul
DePaul (3-11) took the doubles point over Boise State (15-6) to start the match. Alejandro Gandini and Pablo Torres Almeida defeated Baker and Tallakson 6-4 on court one, and Sebastian Medica and Augusto Pardo Cano clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over Aronson and Soderqvist on court two.
 
Tallakson evened the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Gandini on court one. Seifert followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Thomas Giles on court six, then Kurata added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cano on court five to give Boise State the lead.
 
Aronson sealed the team victory for the Broncos, rallying after dropping the first set to defeat Almeida 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 on court two. DePaul picked up two late singles wins to close the match. Medica defeated Soderqvist 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on court four, and Andy Hadziabdic edged Lukas Velik 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 on court three as Boise State held on for the 4-3 victory.

  • The Broncos win just the second matchup in program history between the two teams, leading the series 2-0.
  • Boise State dropped its seventh match all-time to Santa Clara. Boise State leads the all-time series 11-7.
