Broncos Successfully Defend Title in Third-Annual Battle for Idaho

BOISE, Idaho — Defending its 2025 championship, Boise State men's golf collectively shot an 835 (-17) and defeated the University of Idaho in the third-annual Battle for Idaho.

Played at Hillcrest Country Club, the duel first originated in April 2024. After falling to the Vandals in Year 1, Boise State has won the head-to-head matchup in each of the last two seasons.

Capturing the 2026 Battle for Idaho individual championship, Gavyn Knight paced all participants, firing a 205 (-8) across the three rounds. Winning the event by four strokes, Knight shot 12-under in the first two rounds and recorded a single-round personal best in the opening 18 holes.

Ending the competition tied for third with Samuel Johnson, Luke Cushman carded a 211 and was 2-under. He shot a 69 and 70 in the first and third rounds and finished under par for the second-consecutive year.

Chase Gorder (214, +1) and Reese Knox (217, +4) piggybacked one another, finishing in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Ryan Meyer (223, +10) tied for ninth, while Seth Jones (224, +11) concluded the competition in 11th place.

In the opening round, Boise State grabbed a commanding 10-stroke lead and shot 5-under as a team. The Broncos were led by Knight who totaled nine birdies and carded an 8-under 63, the lowest single-round total in his collegiate career. His previous low was a 66 set in the Ram Masters during the 2024-25 season.

Playing 36 holes on Day 1, Boise State's impressive showing continued in the second round. Knight (-4), Jones (-4) and Gorder (-3) combined to shoot 11-under and the Broncos owned a 17-stroke advantage at the conclusion of Monday's play.

Wrapping the duel with 18 holes on Tuesday, Boise State had three golfers who shot under par. The Broncos were 2-under on the day and won the competition by 16 strokes, the widest margin of victory for either team in the three years. Â

With the spring season in the rearview mirror, the Broncos will next compete in the 2026 Mountain West Championship. Scheduled for May 3-5, the three-day event will take place at Omni Tucson National Resort and Spa in Arizona.
