BOISE, Idaho – Boise State soccer head coach Jim Thomas announced the addition of defender Elyse McGinnis to the Broncos' 2026 roster. McGinnis joins Boise State after one season at Sacramento State and hails from Fort Collins, Colorado.

McGinnis arrives with three years of eligibility remaining after a strong freshman campaign with the Hornets. She appeared in all 18 matches, making 17 starts while logging 1,377 minutes on the pitch. McGinnis recorded her first collegiate point with an assist against Eastern Washington on Oct. 5 and played the full 90 minutes in seven matches during the season.

"Elyse is the final piece to the puzzle," Thomas said. "She is a tremendous athlete that's inline with the legacy we've created here at Boise State. Her exceptional will to creatively join the attack from defensive positions will add a new wrinkle to the attacking football that has led to a decade of winning seasons. We believe it will propel us on to tremendous success in our first Pac-12 campaign."

A graduate of Fort Collins High School, McGinnis earned three All-Northern Colorado 5A honors in soccer, including first-team recognition in 2023 and 2025. She finished her prep career with 27 goals and 14 assists.

In addition to her success on the soccer field, McGinnis was a three-time all-conference selection in track and field and earned two all-conference honors in cross country. She also competed in Nordic skiing and played club soccer for Broomfield Blast SC.

McGinnis reunites with former Sacramento State teammate Dalen Lau at Boise State, strengthening the Broncos' back line.
