Kelsey Betthauser
- Title:
- Assistant Coach - Throws
Kelsey Betthauser enters her second season as an assistant coach with Boise State track & field in 2025-26. Betthauser works with Boise State's throwers, and joined the program from Idaho, where she worked with the same group.
Â
In her first season leading the Bronco throwers, Betthauser saw early success during the indoor campaign. After recruiting University of Florida transfer Calvin Bostic to the Treasure Valley, she guided him to a fifth-place finish in the shot put at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, becoming the first male Bronco since 2013 to score team points in the event.
Â
At the 2025 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, Betthauser coached Bostic to another scoring performance with a sixth-place finish in the discus. On the women’s side, Ruby Sereday also scored in the javelin, placing sixth.
Â
Betthauser continued to strengthen the program in the offseason, adding nine throwers to the roster for the 2025-26 campaign.
Â
Betthauser joined the Vandals in August 2022, and coached athletes to three NCAA West Preliminary appearances, five conference titles, and a school record holder in the weight throw. She most notably coached Mia Sylvesater and Noah Culbertson to impressive careers in Moscow.
Â
Mia Sylvester was named the 2023 Big Sky Indoor Female Freshman of the Year and later the conference's outstanding female performer in 2024 -- the first Vandal to do so since 2021. Noah Culbertson made two appearances at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in 2023 and 2024, and was a conference champion in the indoor shot put in 2024.
Â
Prior to her stint at Idaho she coached the throwers at Southern Arkansas from 2020-22. In her first season, Betthauser helped five athletes earn first-team all-conference selections. She also led the men's team to second-place finishes in discus, hammer throw and shot put, and coached a member of the women's team to a runner-up finish in the hammer throw at the Great American Conference Championships.
Â
In the following season, Betthauser guided nine athletes to GAC first-team all-conference selections, and three individuals to GAC individual titles. Her athletes swept the top spot on both the men's and women's sides in discus, and also took first place in the shot put. Betthauser also saw one of her athletes set the school record for the javelin.
Â
Before beginning her coaching career Betthauser competed for Dubuque from 2016 to 2019. She earned multiple individual awards and set the school record for women's discus. In 2018, Betthauser also completed an internship at EXOS and worked at MERGE Performance Institute as a strength coach. Following her undergrad, Betthauser spent a semester as a graduate assistant at McKendree University. She is a native of Ellsworth, Wis.
