Marisa Howard enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Boise State track & field and cross country programs in 2024-25. Howard ran for the Blue & Orange between 2010-15 competing in long distance events.
Howard has competed professionally since graduating from Boise State in 2015 and currently runs for Idaho Afoot, a team of athletes trained by McCurry. She earned a spot on the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track & Field 3000-meter steeplechase team by running a qualifying time of 9:07.14, the eighth-fastest time in the world. Howard has also competed in two Pan American Games, winning a silver medal in 2019. She has made all five U.S. championship steeplechase finals that she has competed in since graduation.
On the coaching front, Marisa helped mentor distance runners for seven seasons with her husband Jeff at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho. Since 2017, Rocky Mountain has captured four boys cross country and seven track and field state championships.
During her time with the Broncos, Howard was a three-time Mountain West champion and four-time all-conference runner, a two-time All-American, and the 2014 NCAA runner up in the 3000m steeplechase. Howard holds the fifth-fastest 5000-meter and second-fastest 3000m steeplechase times in Boise State's history.
Howard ran for the Pasco High School cross country and track teams from 2006-10 where she was a five-time Columbia Basin League first team honoree, set three school records as well as two area records, and won two district championships. She is a native of Pasco, Washington, and has spent her last 14 years living in Idaho.
