Smith comes to Boise State after spending the previous two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for UCLA women's tennis. Over the past two years, Smith helped lead his team to an appearance at the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Championships. 

In the 2022-23 season, Smith's team at UCLA beat two teams ranked in the Top Five and earned a win over No. 6 Duke for a spot in the super-regional round of the NCAA Championships.

Smith also provided on-court guidance for UCLA freshman Fangran Tian as she became the 2023 NCAA singles champion without dropping a set all season. 

The previous season was Smith's first in the coaching ranks and his team went 7-1 in Pac-12 play during the dual-match portion.

Following his career at Loyola Marymount University, Smith embarked on a professional career and has since been a regular on the ITF Tennis Tour. That same year, he advanced through qualifying to reach the singles semifinal round at the Tunisia F33 Futures event. Smith has also logged six quarterfinal-round showings and one semifinal finish in both singles and doubles.

Before coaching, Smith played at LMU where he garnered two West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week accolades and one Double's Team of the Week. In addition, Smith was named the 2015 WCC Freshman of the Year.
