Boise State Falls at No. 26 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. (2/6/2015) - Boise State's men's tennis team battled No. 26 Northwestern on the road in Evanston, Ill., Friday afternoon falling 7-0 to the Wildcats. Toby Mitchell and Garrett Patton won theirs doubles match to lead the 45th-ranked Broncos, while Brian Foley fell in a tough third set 10-point tiebreaker. The loss drops the Broncos to 2-3 on the year with the losses all coming to nationally ranked opponents.
Doubles was a battle as the Broncos pulled even at 1-1 when Mitchell and Patton won on court one over the Wildcats' Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer by a 6-4 score. The Boise State tandem improved to 4-1 in duals this semester.
The team point for doubles would end up going to Northwestern as the Wildcats earned victories on court two where Abe Hewko and Thomas Tenreiro fell 6-3 to start the match. With the scored tied 1-1 in doubles the team point was decided on court three where NU's Alp Horoz and Mihir Kumar downed Boise State's Foley and Danny Moyer 6-4.
Northwestern end the day sweeping all six singles matches from the Broncos beginning with Moyer's 6-0, 6-2 defeat on court six. It was the true freshman's first ever collegiate dual match.
The score went to 3-0 following Tenreiro's straight set 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 1 singles. The match was clinched shortly after that when the Wildcats' Kirchheimer handed Garrett Patton a 6-1, 6-2 loss on court two.
Next up for Boise State is an encounter against No. 30 Harvard Saturday afternoon at Northwestern University.
