BOISE, Idaho - Boise State captured the all-important doubles point early on and Jack Heslin secured the match-clinching win at No. 1 singles to give the Broncos the 4-3 victory over Santa Clara Saturday afternoon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

The win moves the Blue and Orange to 5-9 on the season and drops Santa Clara to 8-5. Boise State has won four of its last five matches.

The successful day started with Heslin and Kyle Butters decisively claiming a win at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0 result. Pedro Platzeck and Stefan Lalovic then teamed up and secured the doubles point thanks to a 6-3 victory on court two against Santa Clara's Jesus Tapiador Barajas and Vasileios Iliopoulos, giving the home team a 1-0 lead in the overall match.

Platczek and Lalovic now have a 14-8 doubles record between the fall and spring seasons combined - the most wins of any doubles combination on the team.

Butters carried over his momentum from doubles into singles as he convincingly took down Robert Seby in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The junior is now 3-1 in duals this season at the No. 2 spot.

The visiting Broncos went on to even the overall match score at 2-2 with wins on courts three and four. Boise State's Matteo Tinelli fell to Barajas 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 and Mattia Bedolo battled at No. 4, but ultimately came up short against Connor Garnett 6-4, 6-4.

Santa Clara then took its first lead of the match at 3-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 decision on court six that went in the favor of Kamran Khan with the Broncos' Pedro Platczek picking up the loss and breaking up his five-match winning streak.

Wyatt DeMulling steeped up and swung the momentum back in Boise State's favor, however, as the junior took down Iliopoulos 6-3, 6-4 on court five to even the score.

With the match tied at 3-3 and the only singles match remaining in the third set, Heslin calmly rallied back from a second set defeat and took the third 6-2, giving him the 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-2 victory to clinch the overall win for the Blue and Orange.

The Broncos will stay at home and play host to Montana later this evening (only doubles) at 6 p.m. Singles play will be contested tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 9 a.m. back at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center. Boise State will then take on Weber State after its match with the Bobcats later tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
