CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Mason Schulze shot an even par 71 in the final round of the Oregon State Invitational, Tuesday to earn a tie for 16th and Boise State men's golf finished sixth (+21, 873).
The Poway, Calif., native was consistent throughout the day making par on 14 of his 18 holes to close the tournament at 3-over. It was his first top-25 finish of the year and third-best in his career.
The Broncos entered the final round in fifth place and within striking distance of third, but missed an opportunity to move up the leaderboard. Host Oregon State won the tournament at 18-under and was the only team under par overall.
"Obviously we were not good enough as a team today," Boise State head coach Dan Potter said. "We had some huge misses that caught up with us. We have a break before we go to Hawaii to end the fall. Hopefully, we can work on some things that will help us become more consistent."
Sophomore Hugo Townsend was in third place with 18 holes to play, but a 9-over 80 in the third round dropped him into a tie for 23rd at 5-over. Junior Skyler Eubank was 4-over Tuesday and missed out on a top-25 finish (tied for 28th) at 7-over.
Senior Brian Humphreys shot his best round of the tournament with a 1-over 72 and moved up to tie for 37th at 10-over. Freshman Alex Talbot was 5-over in the third round and placed in a tie for 54th at 14-over.
Competing as an individual, senior Joe Neuheisel shot a 1-over 72 to earn a career-best 12th-place finish.
The Broncos travel to Ka'anapali, Hawaii, Nov. 1-3 for the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational to close the fall portion of their schedule.
