Broncos Place Four in Idaho State Fall Invitational Semifinals

POCATELLO, Idaho - Boise State men's tennis advanced four of its six participants into tomorrow's singles semifinals at the Idaho State Fall Invitational in Pocatello. Kyryll Kryvchun, Wyatt DeMulling, Blake Bayldon and Ryland McDermott all won their opening singles matches on Saturday to lead the Broncos. All four were seeded in their respective flights and received first round byes into the quarterfinals. On the day, Boise State went a combined 5-2 in singles.

In the Black flight — the top bracket — top-seeded Kryvchun defeated Montana State's Nejc Sitar 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4). He will face Idaho State's Lukas Ridemar in the semifinals.

Also, competing in the Black flight was DeMulling where he is the No. 4 seed. The senior beat Montana's Ludvig Hallgren 6-4, 6-7(2), 1-0 (10-5) to move into the semifinals on Sunday when he will meet Weber State's second-seeded Kris Van Wyk.

Boise State had the top-two seeds in the Orange flight in Simon Arca Costas and Blake Bayldon, respectively. Arca Costas was upset in the quarterfinals by Air Force's Morgan Ihrig 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4). Bayldon was forced to rally after dropping the opening set to beat Idaho State's Patrik Trhac 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). He will face fourth-seeded Gary Rendek from Idaho State in the semifinals.

The Broncos also had two members competing in the Bengals flight with McDermott seeded No. 1. McDermott dispatched Montana's Pontus Hallgrem, but he was forced to comeback from a set down to do it, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9). The senior will take on Air Force's Jordan Azuma in the semifinals.

Joining McDermott in the Bengals flight was freshman Kemal Karagozoglu. He lost his opener in the round of 16 7-6(5), 6-3 to ISU's Filippo LaCava, then regrouped to win his consolation quarterfinal match 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) over Montana State's Chase Stoner. He now moves into the consolation semifinals where he will face Josh Watkins from Montana.
