FAIRFAX, Calif. – Boise State men's golf recorded eight scores under par and the Broncos sit in fourth place after 36 holes of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club.

Boise State is 19-under as a team (273-276-549), three shots behind host California, five back of St. Mary's and 10 shy of tournament-leader Pepperdine. The Broncos are currently ahead of Mountain West foes San Diego State, San Jose State, Nevada and Fresno State.

Sophomore Hugo Townsend shot a 6-under 65 in the first round, but gave four strokes back in the first-six holes of the second round. After steadying the ship with pars on the next-two holes, he recorded the second of his two eagles on the day. He then finished strong with four birdies and five pars on his back nine to put himself in a tie for sixth at 8-under (65-69).

"It was a great team effort today," Boise State head coach Dan Potter said. "Hugo (Townsend) had it going all day. He had a rough patch early in round two, but got it right back. When he's holing putts, he can be explosive for us."

Senior Brian Humphreys bogeyed his first hole of the day and then played 5-under to close his opening round at 4-under. He added a 2-under 69 in the second round and enters Tuesday at 6-under (67-69) in a tie for 14th.

"It was great to see Brian (Humphreys) control his ball the way he normally does," Potter said. He's been working really hard to bet back to the kind of ball-striking he had today."

Senior Mason Schulze (-3, 70-69) and freshman Alex Talbot (-2, 71-69), making his Boise State debut, are tied for 28th and tied for 32nd, respectively.

"Mason (Schulze) had two tidy rounds and I could not have asked more from Alex (Talbot) in his first tournament rounds as a Bronco," Potter said.

Junior Skyler Eubank struggled for the most of the first round and was 3-over after 15 holes. He regrouped with a birdie on 16 and back-to-back pars to close the round. His second round was bogey free (17 pars, 1 birdie) and he is tied for 51st at 1-over (73-70).

Boise State is paired with the three schools it is chasing in Tuesday's final round. Groups will start from hole No. 1 beginning at 9:55 a.m. Mountain Time.
