Nevada Gets Past Broncos in Reno

Hayley Hill wins the 500 and 1,000 freestyle to lead Boise State.

RENO, Nev. - Hayley Hill won the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle races on Saturday to lead Boise State against Nevada, but in the end the Wolf Pack came away with a 187-113 victory. On the day, Boise State won four of the 16 events against Nevada as the Broncos moved to 3-2 in duals this fall.

Hill won both of her individual races clocking a 10:33.61 in the 1,000 free, then a 5:08.32 in the 500. Joining Hill on the victory stand Saturday were Molly Hogg who won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.39 and Katie McCoy with a win in the 400-yard individual medley turning in a 4:26.56.

The Broncos placed second in eight races led by Lauren Vitort's runner-up results in the 200 free (1:52.36) and the 100 free (52.87). Hogg placed second in the 100 back clocking a 56.85.

In the relays Boise State's A team of Martina Andrasek, Carly Palmer, Beatriz Zoppei and Emmie Jennings took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a team-season-best time of 1:45.02. 

The Broncos took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay when the A team of Palmer, Vitort, Madison Frederick and Robin Pinger swam a 3:30.03.

Boise State will be back in action Nov. 20-22 when the Broncos travel to the Mizzou Invite at Columbia, Mo.

 

OTHER NOTABLES

  • 1,000-yard Freestyle - Boise State claimed three of the top-four places in the 1,000 free led by Hill who won the event ... Lucia Davis (10:48.08) placed third while Ally Schultz (10:50.56) took fourth.
  • 200-yard Freestyle - Joining Vitort in the top-five was Emma Brady (1:55.92) who placed fourth.
  • 100-yard Backstroke - Hogg placed second and was joined by Madesyn Ronquillio (57.23) who came in fourth. 
  • 100-yard Breaststroke - Pinger (1:06.12) and Palmer (1:06.68) took third and fourth, respectively.
  • 200-yard Butterfly - Boise State also took third and fourth in the 200 fly led by Brittany Wen (2:08.31) and Andrasek (2:09.77).
  • 1-Meter Springboard - Marti Erlam placed fourth with a 291.15, Tatum Thompkins (254.55) was fifth. 
  • 100-yard Freestyle - Vitort placed second, followed by Jennings (52.90) in third.
  • 200-yard Backstroke - Hogg won the event with a 2:03.99, followed by Ronquillio (2:03.40) in second and Lauren Sale (2:04.00) in fourth.
  • 500-yard Freestyle - Hill claimed the title, but Brady (5:11.08) placed third. 
  • 100-yard Butterfly - Zoppei (56.38) placed second, followed by Wen (58.31) and Jennings (58.91) in fourth and fifth.
  • 3-Meter Springboard - Erlam placed third with a 295.43, Thompkins (272.63) took fifth.
  • 400-yard Individual Medley - McCoy won the race while Andrasek (4:37.84) placed third and Cassie Barkhorn (4:48.53) fifth. 
  • With the loss, Boise State is now 13-10 all-time versus Nevada in all competitions and 5-5 in duals.
