Five Advance to Saturday's Finals

Kirby, Cavinta, Georgious, Pierce and Rubio advance in their respective events

NAMPA, Idaho -- The Boise State track and field team came out of the gates running. Boise State athletes took the victory in the first three heats the competed in on the day, and all three advanced to tomorrow's final in their respective events, Friday at the Jacksons/Nike Boise Indoor Invite. 

To start the day, Bryce Kirby won his first event, the 60m dash, running a 6.93. The mark was the second-fastest time in the event, and advanced him to tomorrow's final. Kirby also won his heat of the men's 200m dash with a 21.80, good enough for third to advance to tomorrow's final. Joining Kirby in the 200m final are Jose Rubio, who finished fifth with a time of 22.11, and David Pierce in eighth at 22.25.

In the women's 60m hurdles Dafni Georgiou easily won her heat with a time of 8.64 making her the top qualifier to the final. In the men's 60m hurdles Ryan Cavinta set a personal record of 8.23, besting his previous best by a tenth of a second. 

Boise State also got a strong showing in the women's long jumper Taj Dorsett jumped her way into the top five in the women's long jump, with a leap of 18-1.75 (5.53m). 

Kendra Noneman continued her impressive season in the women's weight throw, taking second (56-9.5 / 17.31m).

The Broncos will return to action tomorrow to conclude the final day of the Nike Boise Indoor Jackson Invite.
