Senior bats in eight runs as Boise State (23-5, 3-3 MW) downs San Diego State (15-16, 3-3) 16-1 in five innings in Saturday's rubber match
The senior batted in eight runs – breaking the previous single game record of six, held by five players – in only three at-bats as the Broncos (23-5, 3-3 MW) jumped to an early lead in the five-inning victory. All three of Cervantes' hits were for extra bases, as she hit two home runs and a triple. Her triple, hit in her second at-bat in the first inning, also gave her sole possession of first in the school record book with eight in her career.
Boise State scored 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning, working through its entire order before the Aztecs (15-16, 3-3 MW) were able to record a single out. Starting pitcher Marissa Moreno – who held Boise State to five hits in yesterday's loss – gave up seven earned runs in the inning.
"The theme of the day was resilience," head coach Maggie Livreri. "I thought our team showed a lot of grit to come back from yesterday's loss, and they did a great job of really playing for each other."With 8 RBI on the day, Rebekah has also set a single game record for RBI in a game!

Previous record was 6 from five different players.#BleedBlue
Cervantes would hit her first home run with Kora Wade and Ashlyn Adams on base to put the Broncos up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The next three batters would draw walks against Moreno to load the bases for Serena Huchingson. The freshman drew a walk herself to bring a fourth run across and push San Diego State to turn to MJ James in the circle.
Karlee Johnson and Justene Molina would hit back-to-back RBI singles to push the lead to 6-0 with the entire lineup getting on base safely in their first run through the order.
With two outs and making her second appearance at the plate of the inning, Cervantes would hit her record breaking triple to get Adams and Molina across the plate. Cervantes would score on a passed ball during Jessica McKay's at-bat, prior to the latter hitting a home run of her own to make it an 11-0 game.
The Broncos would score five runs in the bottom of the second to go up 16-0. Wade would hit a sacrifice fly into center field, while Adams would single up the right side to bat in Johnson. With Adams and Molina on second and third, Cervantes would hit her second home run of the day, this time into left field.
San Diego State's only run of the day would come on a RBI single from Katie Byrd in the third inning. Rainey Dyreson would receive the win, as she struck out two batters in 3.0 innings. Micaela Leal would notch four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of relief.WATCH | Touch 'em all, @_rebekahlynn!
