BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's beach volleyball team dominated the Bronco Exhibition Pairs Tournament on a sunny spring day Tuesday afternoon in Boise going a combined 11-4 overall with two of the loses coming against other Bronco pairs during the quarterfinals. In fact out of the 22 pair field, the Blue and Orange filled six of the eight quarterfinal slots and all four semifinal positions.

Joining the Broncos at the event at the Boise State Sand Volleyball Courts were the College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene University, College of Southern Idaho and Treasure Valley Community College.

It was great performance for Boise State overall with four of the seven pairs going undefeated as a result of the tournament being called after the quarterfinal round because of darkness.

The Broncos' four pairs that reached the semis were led by Kendra Bodine and Janell Walley — they normally play the No. 1 position in dual matches — who went 2-0 after having a bye into the round of 16, both victories were in straight sets over a team from Southern Idaho in the round of 16 and the College of Idaho's Zuri Meehan and Mali Sawyer 21-8, 21-14 during their quarterfinal match.

The tandem of Kylee Johnson and Kiley Lewis were the other Boise State duo in the top half of the bracket with Bodine and Walley. Johnson and Lewis reached the semifinal round by recording three straight-set victories. They played in one of the two matches pitting two Bronco pairs against each other in the quarterfinals where they beat Kenna Hanses and Maya Watkins 21-16, 21-11.

In the bottom half of the draw, Sabryn Roberts and Morgan Hughes also received a bye in the opening round before they went 2-0 as well with two straight-set wins. Roberts and Hughes downed the College of Idaho's Drew Dobney and MacKenzie Keating 21-12, 21-13 in the round of 16, then followed with a victory over Payton Spoja and Sacha Legros from CSI 21-8, 21-11.

The final Boise State tandem to advance to the semifinals was Jensen Allen and Ellie McDonald who went 3-0 on the day. They advanced to the quarterfinals with dominating wins over pairs from Treasure Valley and Northwest Nazarene. In the quarterfinal match they faced fellow Broncos Olivia Bradley and Drew Hannemann who they defeated 21-17, 21-14.

Hanses and Watkins finished the day by advancing to the consolation semifinals by going 2-1. The tandem opened with a two-set win over CSI's Jovana Vukcevic and Letarona Mose 21-12, 21-10 in the round of 16, then lost to Johnson and Lewis in the main draw's quarterfinals. Hanses and Watkins moved into the consolation quarterfinals where they beat Southern Idaho's Kylie Gibson and Kyoka Nakai in two sets.

Bradley and Hannemann matched Hanses' and Watkins' record going 2-1 overall. They also received a bye into the round of 16 where they downed Ashley Pagan and Austyn Mauzy from the College of Idaho 22-20, 21-17. After falling to Boise State's Allen and McDonald in the main bracket's quarterfinals, Bradley and Hannemann defeated CSI's Vukcevic and Mose 21-12, 22-20 in the consolation quarterfinals to conclude their day.

Boise State will be back in action this Friday when they close the season at home against Sacramento State at 2 p.m., followed by an encounter versus 12th-ranked Arizona at 5 p.m.
