The Broncos (28-9, 8-7 MW) hit a program-record seven home runs on the day to defeat New Mexico (12-31, 3-12) and claim the series
The Boise State softball team rallied from a deficit twice on Saturday to defeat New Mexico and claim the Mountain West Conference series. The Broncos scored a season-high 22 runs on the day to defeat the Lobos 22-10.
Boise State (28-9, 8-7 MW) hit a program-record seven home runs to pull above .500 in conference play for the first time this season. The 22 runs is also the second-highest single-game total in program history. The Broncos got dingers from Ashlyn Adams, Rebekah Cervantes, Bradie Fillmore, Serena Huchingson, Karlee Johnson and Alison Seng.
All nine members of the starting lineup reached home plate on the day.
The Broncos jumped to an early 5-0 lead thanks to a two-run home run from Adams in the top of the first inning, and a solo shot from Johnson in the second. In the top of the third, Fillmore hit a single into right field for a RBI, and she scored on the next at-bat after Morgan Lamb reached on an error.
New Mexico (12-32, 3-12) took control of the game for the first time thanks to a six-run bottom of the third inning. Down 7-5, Boise State re-took the lead thanks to three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Fillmore homered to left field to bring Cervantes home from third, while Kelly hit the first home run of her career on the next at-bat.
A RBI single from Seng made it a 9-7 ballgame in favor of the Broncos.
A three-run home run by the Lobos in the bottom half of the inning took the lead back from Boise State to make it a one-run game. The deficit would be short-lived, as again the Broncos rallied for 13-straight runs over the final two innings.T5 | And @indiaaak_ homers! "The resilience of our offense showed today," head coach Maggie Livreri said. "This is something we've been striving for this season. We kept our confidence even when things weren't going our way and it paid off by the end of this thing."
A single up the middle from Lamb with the bases loaded on a 1-2 count brought in a pair of runs for a Boise State lead. Huchingson would send a shot into center field to clear the bases and make it a 13-10 game. Johnson got on base, and she was brought up on a home run from Seng for a 15-10 lead.
Already owning a comfortable lead, the Broncos would provide their defense with some breathing room with a seven-run top of the seventh. Cervantes would homer to start things off, and Boise State would control the infield to put the game out of reach.
The Broncos used four pitchers in the three-hour game. Kelsey Broadus would get the win, shutting the Lobos out for the 2.2 innings of relief she appeared in. She struck out a season-high eight batters on 38 pitches, giving up zero hits and zero walks.T7 | And there's the record! @_rebekahlynn hits the seventh home run of the day for Boise State!
