Boise State to make third-straight postseason appearance; Broncos open play against Stanford
BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State softball team will extend their postseason streak to three-straight seasons.
The Broncos received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and they are bound for the Gainesville Regional as a three-seed in the region. Boise State will open the postseason against Stanford, and are joined in the region by No. 5 overall seed and host-Florida and Boston University.
The Gainesville Regional will run May 17-19 in Gainesville, Fla. The Broncos will open play against Stanford, May 17 at 10 a.m. MT.Â
"This is an unbelievable accomplishment for the program," first-year head coach Maggie Livreri said. "I am so happy that this amazing group of young women get the chance to go and compete at the national level. They have worked really hard for the opportunity, and we're excited to go compete."
Boise State has reached the postseason in three-consecutive seasons, including back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.Â
"It's a serious blessing and I'm super pumped. Getting the chance to play and compete against some of the best will bring out the best in this team," said senior infielder Rebekah Cervantes. "We are excited and we will prove that we belong in this conversation from now on. I love challenges and this is the challenge I have been waiting for, and I am ready to rise to this challenge."
Posting the best non-conference season in program history, the Broncos jumped to an 18-2 record before the start of Mountain West play. The program entered the conference season riding a 17-game win streak to debut at 19th in the first RPI of the season. Boise State ended the regular season with a 34-14 record, and was one of the last four teams in for the tournament field.
This will be the third all-time meeting against the Cardinal, with the last coming in the 2018 season. The Broncos have played Florida once before in program history — a 3-0 loss on Feb. 25, 2012 — but notched their first win over an SEC program earlier this season.
Boise State has never played Boston University before.Â
