Ostrander Runs Nation-Leading Time in the Steeplechase

Redshirt junior's time of 9:45.66 is the fastest time by an American this season; Paholek and Schoffield post strong marks at Payton Jordan Invitational
STANFORD, Calif. — The two-time defending national champion staked her claim for a three-peat. Making her season debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Allie Ostrander won the fastest section in the event in a time of 9:45.66, Thursday night at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Ostrander was able to get the victory by out-leaning New Mexico's Adva Cohen at the line to win by five-hundreths of a second.
Her mark is the fastest steeplechase time by a collegian this season, and would rank the redshirt junior in the top three of the globe this season — Caren Chebet of Kenya currently ranks second after being timed at a 9:45.6-high in March — according to the IAAF.
While she will move down the performance list because of results from tonight's meet, Paholek placed herself in contention for a bid to the West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, Calif. later this month (May 23-25).
Kristie Schoffield rounded out the contingent for Boise State, running a season best of 2:07.52 in the 800m to place fourth in her section.
The Broncos will have a second contingent of runners competing at the Portland Twilight, Friday, while the rest of the roster will return to completion next week, May 8-11, at the Mountain West Championships.

Boise State also picked up a phenomenal finish from Maxine Paholek in the event. Crossing the finish line for the first time in the event in her collegiate career, the freshman ran a time of 10:07.96 in the section to place 13th. That mark ranks Paholek fourth in school history in the event, and would have been the 15th-fastest time in the nation entering Thursday.This is a steeplechase finish you have to see to believe.
