Boise State (33-11, 11-9 MW) took Colorado State (37-9, 18-5 MW) to their final out but couldn't come up with the win on Saturday
BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State softball team took No. 25 Colorado State to their final out, but couldn't finish with the win, falling 3-1 Saturday at Dona Larsen Park. The win clinches a share of the Mountain West title for the Rams, and sets up a rubber match on Sunday's senior day.
The Broncos (33-11, 11-9 MW) struck in the bottom of the first on a leadoff single from Kora Wade. The single extended her on-base streak to 36-consecutive games – good for the second-longest streak in program history – and stole second base on Ashlyn Adams at-bat. The stolen base was the 81st of her career, and tied her with Tara Glover (2012-14) for the program record in career stolen bases.
Wade reached home on a double from Adams into center field for the 1-0 lead. Adams was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple for the first out of the inning. Boise State's offense would register only four additional hits the rest of the game.
Thrice Boise State was able to escape an inning with the bases loaded unscathed. But the defense could not get the final out, as Colorado State (37-9, 18-5 MW) hit a go-ahead three-run home run for the 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh. The Broncos would go down in order in the bottom of the inning to close out the game.
Wade would lead Boise State with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while Kelsey Broadus would register six strikeouts in a complete-game effort. The Broncos will look to clinch the series tomorrow at noon MT.
