SPRINGVILLE, Utah - Boise State women's golf finished Tuesday's Hobble Creek Classic final round right where it started after Monday's opening two rounds, taking 11th place in the 17-team field. The Broncos shot a collective 302 (+18) Tuesday, finishing the tournament at +55 (304-301-302=907).
CSU Fullerton captured the team title at +22 (878), while medalist honors were shared by Cal Baptist's Jocelyn Chee and Wyoming's Cristiana Ciasca, who each finished at even par (213).
"We were definitely consistent with the team scores this week, which gives us a baseline so we can work to drop that down as we continue," said Boise State head coach Nicole Bird. "I'm very glad to see some of the younger players step up right away."
Sophomore Cora Mickelsen paced the Broncos Tuesday, carding a team-low 73 on the Par 71 Hobble Creek Golf Course. Beginning the day on No. 9 as part of the final round's shotgun start, Mickelsen was at five-over through 10 holes before making a late rally, playing a bogey-free final eight holes which included birdies on Nos. 1, 3, and 8. Mickelsen rose to a tie for 46th at +15 (83-72-73=228), while her score of +3 (145) over the final two rounds was tied for ninth-best among the field.
Freshman Taylor Koch closed out an impressive debut tournament, coming in with a 75 (+4) in Tuesday's final round and pacing the Broncos for the event at +10 (69-79-75=223), good for a tie for 27th. Junior Lexi Perry came in tied for 38th at +13 (78-70-78=226) after a final-round 78.
Junior Nicole Suppelsa (78-80-76=234, +21) and senior Valentine Lacaze (79-81-83=243, +30) rounded out Boise State's scoring quintet.
Competing as individuals, junior Morgan Lashley shot a 78 Tuesday to finish at +27 (81-81-78=240), freshman Elena Pany finished at +31 (85-78-81=244), and redshirt senior Ivane Helias finished +35 (83-81-84=248).
"Overall, our ball-striking was really good this week. We need to work on putting on faster greens, and downhill putts getting our speed dialed in better," Bird said of takeaways from the tournament. "This golf course was a good test for our first event, and really highlighted our strengths and weaknesses."
Boise State returns to action Sept. 23-24 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, where the Broncos will defend their 2018 team title at the event.
