Broncos Come Up Short at No. 21 Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Shae Duffy tallied seven kills to lead Boise State who fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-16) at No. 21 Missouri Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Mizzou Invitational. Boise State struggled against Missouri's size and experience in the loss to the Tigers. The Broncos hit a season-low 8.2 percent while Missouri finished at 37.2 percent. 
The defeat snapped the Broncos' six-match win streak as they move to 6-3 on the year.  Boise State will return to Boise after three straight weeks on the road to host its home opener this Thursday against instate-rival Idaho State at 7 p.m. 

Janell Walley was named to her third-straight all-tournament team on Sunday. The senior finished the three-match tournament with team-highs in kills (37), digs (30) and points (41.0). In addition, she hit a team-best 42.2 percent over the weekend and recorded a career-high 23 kills in Friday's win over Austin Peay, .

Duffy led the Boise State offense with a team-high seven kills to go with two block assists. Lauren Ohlinger followed with five kills, one service ace and one block assist, while Janell Walley added four kills, a team-high eight digs and one block assist.

In all three sets the Broncos hung with the Tigers early only to watch Mizzou pull away midway through each period to claim three straight wins. 

Missouri was led by Leketor Member-Meneh and Kylie Deberg with 10 kills each as the Tigers remain undefeated at 8-0.

 

OTHER NOTABLES

  • Boise State's three losses this season have all been to nationally ranked top-25 teams: No. 9 BYU, No. 16 Marquette and now No. 21 Missouri, all in straight sets ... rankings are as of the date of the contest.
  • For the first time in the last eight matches Walley was held to single-digits in kills, snapping a streak of seven straight. 
  • For only the second time this season the opponent recorded more blocks than the Broncos by a 9-to-5 margin.
  • Duffy finished the Mizzou Invite with 30 kills and six blocks.
  • Jessica Donahue and Alyssa Wissinger led Boise State in blocking with 11 and 10, respectively. 
  • Boise State is no 1-3 all-time versus Missouri and 7-8 against the current membership of the Southeastern Conference.
