BOISE, Idaho - Justinian Jessup rose to the occasion when his three-pointer pushed Boise State's lead to seven with 4:20 to play. Jessup's triple put him in a tie atop the Mountain West's all-time career three-point list, matching BYU's Jimmer Fredette, and pushed the Broncos to a 73-64 win over Nevada Saturday at ExtraMile Arena. It is Boise State's fourth consecutive win and vaults them into a tie for second place in the Mountain West.
The Broncos (15-8, 7-4 MW) raced out to a 22-point lead in the first half before taking a 36-21 lead into the locker room. The Wolf Pack (13-10, 6-5 MW) scored 24 points in the first nine minutes of the second half and cut the margin to three at 48-45. Boise State responded with seven straight points, the last five from Derrick Alston, Jr., capped by a three-point play.
Alston finished with a team-high 24 points, including an 11-for-14 effort from the free throw line. He has scored at least 20 points in 13 games this season, including each of the last two. He also led the Broncos with six rebounds and four assists.
Nevada responded again with an 11-3 run to cut Boise State's lead back to four with less than five minutes to play. Jessup's historic shot gave the Broncos the breathing room they needed and the Wolf Pack would draw no closer.
The win snapped Boise State's eight-game losing streak in the series.
"I had never beaten them in my career," Jessup said. "It was definitely a little extra motivation. We came out with the right energy and got off to a good start."
Jessup finished with 17 points and four rebounds. Fellow senior Alex Hobbs scored eight points off the bench to help earn his first win over the Wolf Pack as well.
Boise State plays at Wyoming Tuesday, its first of two consecutive road games. The Broncos and Cowboys tip off at 8 p.m. MT on AT&T SportsNet. Boise State will play at Utah State Saturday, at 8 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network.
