SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Boise State men's tennis fell 4-0 at the hands of the San Francisco Dons Sunday afternoon at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco. Boise State dropped the doubles point 2-0 then came up on the short end of the first three singles matches completed. The loss gives the Blue and Orange a split on the weekend and a 6-3 overall record.
The Dons claimed the team doubles point with wins on courts two and one. The Broncos' top tandem of Simon Arca Costas and Blake Bayldon were edged out by USF's Paul Giraud and Ori Maior 6-4. The loss was only the second of the year for the Boise State pair who is now 12-2.
Boise State also fell at No. 2 doubles that stopped play with the Dons winning the point 2-0. At the time of the stoppage, the Broncos No. 3 pair of Kyryll Kryvchun and Kemal Karagozoglu were leading their match 5-4.
Down one, Boise State needed to win four singles matches for a team victory. Unfortunately, things did not go the Broncos way as the Dons claimed three straight-set victories on courts two, three and five, respectively.
The match was played to clinch and was stopped once San Francisco won its fourth point. However, when the final three matches were abandoned the Broncos had leads in all of them. Kryvchun was up 6-3, 5-5 on court one, Wyatt DeMulling was leading at the fourth position 7-6, 2-5, while Michael Bott was up at No. 6 singles 6-1, 3-6, 1-0.
The Broncos return home next weekend when they open a three-match homestand starting with Louisiana and Mountain West rival San Diego State.
