ABOUT THE BRONCOS
- The Broncos enter the championships at 6-2 overall in duals and are coming off three-straight dual meet victories over Northern Arizona (twice) in Flagstaff, Ariz., (Jan. 24 and 25), then at home versus Washington State on Feb. 1. Â Â
- All three of Boise State's divers have qualified for next month's NCAA Zone E Championships ... Marti Erlam and Tatum Thompkins have both qualified on the springboards, while Taylor Clark has qualified on the platform. Â
- Three swimmers will have two or more top-10 seeds in their respective events at the MW Championships.
- Katie McCoy leads the team with three top-10 seeds owning the No. 2 time in the 200-yard individual medley, the fifth-best time in the 400 IM and sixth-best in the 200-yard backstroke.Â
- Hayley Hill has two top-10 times in the 500 and 1,650-yard freestyles, she has the top time in the 1,650.
- Molly Hogg is in the top-10 in both backstrokes, No. 8 in the 100 back and No. 4 in the 200.
COACH MABILE
- Boise State is in its second season under the direction of head coach Christine Mabile who has guided the Blue and Orange to a 14-3 record in dual competitions, including 6-2 this season.Â
- Christine Mabile returned to her alma mater (2010) during the summer of 2018 to become the third head coach in program history, which is entering its 14th season in 2019-20.
- She did not swim for the Broncos as an undergraduate, instead she spent the four years as a volunteer assistant coach working with the team from the deck. Â
- Mabile returned to Boise State after two years as an assistant at Missouri, preceded by five years as head coach at the College of Idaho.
- Joining Mabile on her first coaching staff are Jordan Lieberman who was an assistant at Cornell, as well as Brandon Blaisdell who returns for his fifth season as the Bronco diving coach.
TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE
- Since it was established with the 2006-07 season, the Broncos swimming and diving program has wasted little time in creating a tradition of excellence when it comes to conference championships.Â
- After a building period of three years under Boise State's first head coach Kristin Hill (fall 2006-spring 2015) where the Broncos finished eighth, seventh and sixth, respectively, in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championships meet, the Blue and Orange has since won six conference championships and not placed lower than third place in the last 10 years.
- Boise State's first five years were as members of the Western Athletic Conference. After placing sixth out eight teams in the 2009 (third season of competition) WAC Championships, the Broncos went on to win the next two titles in 2010 and 2011 to closeout their WAC membership.Â
- The Broncos joined the Mountain West Conference for the 2011-12 season and proceeded to win the conference championship that spring giving the Blue and Orange three-straight titles spanning two leagues.Â
- Since that inaugural season in the MW, Boise State has won the 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2018 MW Championships, placed second in 2013, 2015 and 2016, while taking third in 2019.
- Boise State and San Diego State are tied for the most conference titles out of the current membership, which ranks second all-time behind Brigham Young's nine titles between 2000 and 2010.
- Boise State is the only current league member to win back-to-back titles after last year's victory. It is one-of-two schools to ever accomplish that feat all-time in league history behind BYU's five straight from 2000-04 and four straight from 2007-10.Â
