MINNEAPOLIS - Boise State tallied 132 points on the opening day of the Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Minneapolis on Wednesday. It was a light day of events with only three, one diving and two swimming, being contested. The Boise State divers recorded two top-12 finishes and the swimmers recorded season-best times in both relays.
"I thought we had a good start, especially from the divers," said head coach Christine Mabile. "They started us off first this afternoon with a good performance on the 1-meter. It was good to see the team start off on a good note early, then tonight we got a couple individual best times within relay splits so it was a solid day one. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
The opening event of the 2020 MW Championships was the 200-yard medley relay. The Broncos' A team of Molly Hogg, Robin Pinger, Emmie Jennings and Lauren Vitort clocked a season-best time of 1:40.16 which was good for fourth place.
Boise State's divers had a strong showing on the opening day of the championships as both Tatum Thompkins and Taylor Clark recorded career-highs on the 1-meter springboard during the B final in the afternoon. Thompkins scored a new NCAA Zone Qualifying score of 279.00 to take 10th-place overall, while Clark placed 12th out of 30 competitors with a time of 260.60.
The 800-yard freestyle wrapped up the first day of activities with Boise State's team of Hayley Hill, Lauren Vitort, Lucia Davis and Madison Frederick turning in a season-best time of 7:20.93.
The championships will continue Thursday with a full slate of events starting with the preliminaries at 10 a.m. (Mountain). Thursday's events include: 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, 3-meter springboard and the 400-yard medley relay.
