WHAT'S HAPPENING
♦ THIS WEEK: Boise State (6-4) heads to Santa Clara, Calif., this weekend for the Silicon Valley Classic hosted by Santa Clara. ♦ FIELD: The field for the tournament includes: Boise State, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, Canisius, North Dakota, Santa Clara and Yale.  Â
♦ OPPONENTS: Boise State will play five of the six teams in Santa Clara, it will not meet Yale. The Broncos are 4-0 all-time against the five teams it will face this weekend, 2-0 versus both Santa Clara and Cal Poly.

THE SCOUTING REPORT
NORTH DAKOTA♦ Boise State has never met North Dakota before in softball until they open play at the Silicon Valley Classic on Friday at 3 p.m. (Mountain).
♦ The Summit League's Fighting Hawks enter the weekend at 3-6 overall with wins over Incarnate Word (6-5), Texas Southern (5-2)and Toledo (6-2).
♦ The team is batting .232, averaging 2.7 runs per game and has an ERA of 6.67.
SANTA CLARA
♦ This will be the second meeting of the year between the two Broncos, Boise State won the first encounter 11-6 on Feb. 7 in Davis, Calif.
♦ The West Coast Conference's Broncos are 5-4 overall with key wins over Idaho State and UTEP twice each, and versus Sacramento State.
♦ As a team Santa Clara is hitting .324, averages 5.2 runs per game and has a team ERA of 5.88.Â
CAL BAPTIST
♦ This will be the first meeting in the series when the teams meet on Saturday.
♦ The Lancers are new members of the Western Athletic Conference and enter the weekend at 4-5 overall with notable wins over Mississippi (4-2) and Colorado State (4-3).
♦ CBU is hitting .252 as a team, averages 4.2 runs per game and has a team ERA of 6.31.
CANISIUS
♦ Boise State will also face Canisius for the first time when the two meet on Saturday afternoon.
♦ The Golden Griffins are out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and bring a 3-2 overall mark to Santa Clara, they will be playing at San Jose State prior to the weekend tournament.Â
♦ The Griffins are hitting .344 as a team, averaging 7.0 runs per game and have an ERA of 6.46.
CAL POLY
♦ Boise State will close the weekend on Sunday morning with the Cal Poly Mustangs in what will be the third meeting all-time, the Broncos lead 2-0.
♦ The Big West Conference's Mustangs are 5-4 entering the week with key wins over Pitt (9-8), Saint Mary's (8-4) and Cal (5-2).Â
♦ Cal Poly is hitting .327 as a team, averaging 5.1 runs per game and has an ERA of 5.34.

ON THE MOUND♦ Senior Kelsey Broadus is 4-0 overall, three by shutout.
♦ The three shutout victories gives Broadus 10 in her career, one short of tying the school record.Â
MAKING HISTORY
♦ On Feb. 14 Boise State accomplished something rarely done before when they hit two grand slams in the sixth inning against No. 10 Kentucky.
♦ At the time it was only the sixth in NCAA DI that two grand slams had been hit in an inning before.
♦ Strangely enough, Clemson — a first year program — did the same thing the next day hitting two grand slams against Maryland in the second inning.
LAST TIME OUT
♦ The Broncos went 2-3 last weekend at the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
♦ Boise State earned victories over Illinois State 4-0 and Detroit Mercy 10-0.
♦ Two of the three defeats were versus nationally-ranked teams, 16-14 to No. 10/10 Kentucky and 8-0 to No. 23/22 Arizona State.
♦ The Broncos hit .283 with 36 hits, 36 runs and had a team ERA of 8.15 last week.Â
