Boise State Splits on Opening Day of Season

Broncos defeated San Francisco in the morning, then fell to Missouri State in the afternoon.
TUCSON, Ariz. - Boise State beach volleyball split on the opening day of the season defeating San Francisco 5-0, then fell to Missouri State 4-1 in the afternoon. The No. 4 pair of Joey Benson and Alyssa Wissinger led the Broncos on the day winning both of their matches in three sets.Â
The Blue and Orange will be back in action for two more matches on Saturday when the Broncos face top-20 teams in No. 15 Arizona and No. 20 Arizona State.
SAN FRANCISCO RECAP
Boise State opened the 2020 campaign with a solid 5-0 victory over the San Francisco Dons of the West Coast Conference Friday morning in Tucson. The match opened with two three-set contests before the Broncos claimed the final three in straight sets.Â
The match opened with the two and four pairs competing first. Boise State's Ellie McDonald and Katie Martin rallied from a set down to win their match on court two 19-21, 21-15, 15-10 over San Francisco's Lauren Speckman and Emily Zinger.Â
Boise State went up 2-0 following Benson's and Wissinger's victory at No. 4 pair. They won the first set then held off the Dons' Tanner Pemberton and Sophie Sydenham in three 21-15, 18-21, 18-16.
The match was clinched by the five's when Kylee Johnson and Olivia Bradley downed Trish Koustsoukos and Katie Wagstaff 21-11, 21-18.
The last two matches went to the Broncos as well with Danielle Boss and Jensen Allen beating Shannon Levinson and Ella Reames easily 21-17, 21-13. Followed by Lauren Ohlinger and Erin Martin's tough victory on court one by 21-19, 22-20 scores.Â
MISSOURI STATE RECAP
Down one, Boise State tied the match score at 1-1 when Benson and Wissinger rallied from a tough loss in set one to win in three 20-22, 21-14, 15-13 over Kylee Davis and Makayla Tam at No. 4 pair.Â
The Bears came back and won No. 1 and 5 pairs to clinch the match. The Five's went to three sets before Bradley and Johnson came up on the short end of a 15-21, 21-19, 15-11 score.Â
The final match on court three also went to three sets after Jensen Allen and Danielle Boss rallied from a set one loss to force the match to a third. Unfortunately, the Bronco duo came up short in the third falling 21-16, 19-21, 19-17.
