BANDON, Ore. – Boise State rallied from a slow start to finish the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship in seventh place, Sunday.
On a day when only tournament-leader Oregon State (-3) was under par, the Broncos made 16 birdies and finished 5-over 289. Cameron Barzekoff led the way with an even part 71 and is tied for 14th.
Brian Humphreys had a quadruple bogey on 16, his fourth hole of the day, but made three birdies and 14 pars in the round to put himself in a tie for 20th at 1-over 72.
Hugo Townsend and Connor Johnstone are each in a tie for 31st at 2-over 73. Johnstone, making his first appearance of the season, had an up and down day, but led the Broncos with six birdies.
Skyler Eubank is tied for 57th at 4-over 75. He finished strong, as he was 1-under over his final-four holes.
"Today was just an okay start," Boise State head coach Dan Potter said. "All five guys were in it, but I wouldn't say anyone was especially sharp. Brian (Humphreys) had a big mishap early on and did a great job of putting it behind him and shooting a solid score. Connor (Johnstone) hasn't been in the lineup for a while, so it was good to see him come out and make some putts and be scrappy."
