BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's tennis announced its annual team awards Wednesday, during a virtual banquet. Kyryll Kryvchun (Most Valuable Player), Blake Bayldon (Most Improved Player) and Wyatt DeMulling (Bleed Blue Award) were each honored for their individual accomplishments during the 2019-20 season cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

Each year the program hands out three team awards to deserving individuals who have epitomized what it takes to succeed in each category. The winners of the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player awards are selected by the coaching staff while the prestigious Bleed Blue Award winner is selected by his peers.

Most Valuable Player: Kyryll Kryvchun
The MVP award goes to the Bronco who has led the way both on and off the court and driven, not only themselves, but the team towards becoming its best.
  • 23 singles wins on the year; competed at No. 1 singles in the spring
  • All-Mountain West singles
  • Reached Quarterfinals at ITA Regionals
  • Win over nationally-ranked opponent
  • Dar Walters Fall Classic Singles Champion
Head Coach Kristian Widen on Kryvchun: "Kyryll transferred into Boise State this past fall, and made an immediate impact as a player and person. He lives, breathes and sleeps tennis and has proven that hard work pays off. He has made major positive steps in how he manages his matches and practices, which has helped the team and the way our culture needs to look. We are very excited for Kyryll and what the future holds. He will have the opportunity to be one of Boise State's top players, before moving on, and don't be surprised when he gets a national ranking in 2020-2021"

Most Improved Player: Blake Bayldon
The Most Improved Player Award goes to the Bronco who has made the biggest strides over the course of the year and raised the bar for himself the most.
  • All-Mountain West Doubles
  • 22 doubles wins and 17 singles wins on the year
  • National doubles ranking reached as high as No. 50 (Arca Costas)
  • National Collegiate Tennis Classic Doubles Champion (Arca Costas)
  • Oregon Duck Invite Doubles Champion (Arca Costas)
  • Dar Walters Fall Classic Doubles Champion (Kyryll Kryvchun)
  • Earned doubles victory of 38th-ranked team in the country
  • 4.0 student
Head Coach Kristian Widen on Bayldon: "Blake also transferred into Boise State this past Fall, and quickly understood what and how we do things here. He adopted our way of putting in extra hours and steadily improved his game. The biggest improvement came in Blake's singles play, where he was willing to make technical and tactical changes. The main reason Blake got this award is because he showed solid leadership in his work ethic, on and off the court, which naturally had him improve the most".

Bleed Blue Award: Wyatt DeMulling
The Bleed Blue Award goes to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the program's culture and mentality, including the traits below:
  • The recipient understands the value of being part of something larger than himself. It is no longer about being an individual, it is about being a team.
  • Each athlete checks their ego at the door and understands their role and purpose.
  • We understand the privilege and honor it is to be a Bronco, something we cherish at all times.
  • Each member of our program will represent our university with high character and make sound decisions in everyday life and show gratitude towards the opportunities they have been given.
  • Winning or losing, we roll up our sleeves and go to work.
  • Bleeding Blue is not for everyone, it is for the elite who are willing to put others before themselves to achieve greatness and be champions on and off the court.
Head Coach Kristian Widen on DeMulling: "Wyatt is a true Bronco, inside and out. He won this award last year as well, and has helped turn this program around. He is not the loudest team member in the locker room, but with his way of showing up everyday, he is a silent leader that his teammates can rely on for support and energy. In competition, his positive energy makes him the heart and soul of this team. Wyatt is a great teammate and he will do anything for his team, our program and Boise State University. He understands that nobody is larger than the program and he is one of the most loyal student-athletes I have ever been around".
