BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's soccer team picked up a much-needed win Sunday afternoon as it took down Fresno State 2-1 in front of Bronco Nation at Boas Soccer Complex.
The game kicked off at a torrential pace with each team scoring a goal in the first four minutes. The Broncos opened the scoring in the third minute with a goal from Aubree Chatterton, but the Bulldogs responded quickly with a goal from Katie Dohnel in the fourth minute to even things up.
The score remained deadlocked for over an hour of game time until, in the 73rd minute, Boise State set up for a corner kick. Kenzie MacMillan delivered a ball into the box that was punched out by the Fresno State keeper, but Alexis Haws collected it and scored to give her team the lead and send the home crowd into a frenzy. Boise State then fended off several late corner kicks from Fresno State in the dying embers of the match, sealing the win.
Chatterton's goal was the 15th of her career, which moved her into a three-way tie for ninth all-time in program history with Kaziah Hill and Ginger Sellick. The Boise-native also moved up the list for career points as she is now tied with Hill and Randi Baker for seventh all-time with 40. For Haws, her goal was the first of her Bronco career.
Fresno State entered the match sitting second in the Mountain West table with 13 points. With the win, Boise State improved to 2-3-1 in MW play and now hold seven points. The Broncos outshot the Bulldogs 16-4 including eight shots on frame. Seven yellow cards were given during the match, with three going to the visitors and four to the home side.
Up next the Broncos are back on the road for matches against Colorado College (Oct. 14) and Air Force (Oct. 17).
