WHAT'S NEXT?

The Boise State women's tennis team continues its season-opening homestand with a match against BYU at 5 p.m. MT this Friday. The Broncos were also originally slated to face Montana on Sunday, but due to COVID-19 complications that match has been cancelled. There are no plans currently to reschedule the match.

THE OPPONENT

BYU will travel to Boise for the first time since 2018 with an impressive 5-1 record. Many of their wins are against future Bronco opponents including Weber State, Dixie State and Fresno State, meaning the results of this match could be a good measuring stick for the Broncos to use. The last time these two faced each other dates to 2019 when the Cougars edged the Broncos 4-2 in Provo.

LAST TIME OUT

Last weekend the Broncos opened the season going 2-0 in a doubleheader against Idaho State and Lewis-Clark State. The 5-2 win in the first match of the day against the Bengals improved head coach Beck Roghaar's career record in season-opening matches to 11-0 since taking over for the Blue and Orange.

In the second match of the day Boise State used five straight-set singles wins to help power the team to a 7-0 sweep over the Warriors. All three true freshmen - Shauna Heffernan, Nicole Discenza and Pauline Ernstberger - earned their first collegiate victories in the matches on Saturday.

STATS TO WATCH FOR

Joana Baptista and Pauline Ernstberger were huge contributors for the Broncos in their opening weekend. Both student-athletes went 2-0 in singles on the day, and each only lost a total of 4 games in their respective matches. Baptista has now surpassed the 10-win career mark with 11 total victories as a Bronco, but even more impressive is of her seven career spring duals victories, six have come in straight-set fashion.

Redshirt-junior Vanessa Timm moved a step closer to the 50-win mark in both singles and doubles last weekend, earning a win in each. She now sits at 46 career victories in singles and 47 in doubles.
