GAME ONE RECAP: A balanced offensive attack led Boise State to a bounce-back win Thursday, against UNLV at ExtraMile Arena. Emmanuel Akot led the Broncos with 16 points off the bench. Nine different Broncos took the floor, each scoring at least three points. Boise State shot 50 percent from the floor, 40 percent from beyond the arc and 81.8 percent from the free throw line to snap a two-game skid and give head coach Leon Rice his 213th victory with the Broncos, tying Bobby Dye's all-time school record. After UNLV got out to a hot start, Akot keyed a 20-4 run midway through the first half. The Broncos took a 42-30 lead into halftime and never looked back.
ALL-TIME WINS MARK: Head coach Leon Rice has won 213 games leading Boise State men's basketball, matching Bobby Dye's all-time school record. Rice earned his 213th win Thursday, in his 345th game at the helm - the same number of games it took Dye to reach 213 wins. Dye coached one more game for the Broncos, bringing his career total to a school-record 346, a mark Rice will tie Saturday.
AKOT IN A GROOVE: Redshirt junior guard Emmanuel Akot is getting up to speed after missing the first two games of the season and three more at the start of the calendar year. Akot led the Broncos with 16 points Thursday, his third straight game in double figures. He reached double figures three times in his first 11 games as a Bronco. During the current streak, Akot is averaging 16 points on 58 percent shooting, including six three-pointers on 42.8 percent shooting beyond the arc.
ARMUS COMING ON STRONG: Redshirt junior forward Mladen Armus scored a season-high 13 points Thursday, while collecting eight rebounds. Armus has scored in double figures seven times this season, including five in the last eight games. He is averaging 9.6 points and 8.1 rebounds during the eight-game stretch.
