GAME ONE RECAP: A 9-2 run over 67 seconds late in the game helped Boise State surge to a 79-70 win over Utah State Wednesday, and leapfrog the Aggies into first place in the Mountain West standings. Derrick Alston, Jr. scored 18 of his 26 points in the first half to keep the game close, before the Broncos' depth shined through during the second half rally. Boise State trailed 54-51 with 11:35 left to play when Max Rice scored six points in less than a minute, bookending an Abu Kigab three-pointer, as the Broncos took a four-point lead. Marcus Shaver, Jr. later scored eight consecutive Boise State points and finished with 12 for the game.

ALSTON SCORING: Derrick Alston, Jr. scored 26 points Wednesday, on the heels of a season-high-tying 27 Saturday, against UNLV. It is the first time in Alston's career he has scored at least 26 points in consecutive games. He has hit the 20-point mark 11 times in 21 games this season and 33 times in his career - the second most by a Boise State player during Leon Rice's tenure as head coach (Anthony Drmic, 38). Alston is the first Bronco under Rice to register three different seasons with at least nine 20-point games.

SIXTH MAN EMERGING: Emmanuel Akot has played in 13 Mountain West games this year, coming off the bench in eight of them. Akot is averaging 8.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in conference play. He is the only MW player with five or fewer starts who is averaging at least eight points, three rebounds and two assists in league play.

DENNIS DELIVERS: RayJ Dennis scored eight points in the win Wednesday, his highest scoring output in six games. Dennis made two big three-pointers in the second half. His first tied the game at 51 with 13:17 to go. His second broke a tie with 7:45 left, putting the Broncos on top for good. Dennis was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, after going 3-of-21 in the previous eight games combined.
