Luka Soskic clinched the 4-3 victory for the Broncos.

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's tennis held off a New Mexico rally to win a tightly contested Mountain West match 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Center. Trailing 3-0, New Mexico rallied to tie the score at three all. With the score tied, Luka Sockic came back from a set down to clinch the match for the Broncos winning his No. 5 singles contest in three sets. The victory improved the Broncos to 15-3 overall and 3-2 in conference heading into Sunday's home match versus Air Force. It was the first conference loss of the season for the Lobos.

"This was an excellent college tennis match today, this is what it's all about when it comes down to the wire and everybody's fighting for that point," said head coach Kristian Widen. "Matches like this one are so much fun to be part of, obviously winning is more fun than losing, but this is what the guys are looking for and what college tennis is all about. Today was a team effort and it was a great win."

"The team played as a whole today. I thought we started a little bit slow in doubles, then came back on all courts," said Soskic. "In singles, we had good energy from the beginning. I messed up the first set, but I kept fighting for every ball, every point and was able to come back. I kind of realized early in the second set that it was probably going to come down to my match to decide everything. I kept hearing everyone screaming on the other courts."

Boise State opened by taking the team doubles point 2-0 with wins on courts two and three, respectively. Caden Moortgat and Lawrence Sciglitano claimed the first Bronco victory of the day with a 6-4 win over UNM's Raul Dobai and Jake Trondson at No. 2 doubles. Simon Arca Costas and Lukas Ridemar followed with a 6-3 win at the third position, clinching the team point for the Blue and Orange.

In singles, Boise State would race out to a 3-0 match lead with decisive straight-set wins by Arca Costas and Wyatt DeMulling. Arca Costas dispatched Rafael Abdulsalam 6-3, 6-2 on court three to claim his 52nd career victory. DeMulling moved Boise State to within one point of clinching when he earned his 62nd career victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles.

Down three, the Lobos rallied claiming three-set wins at No. 4 and 1 singles, as well as a two set victory on court two that tied the match at 3-3 with the decisive contest coming on court five.

"Luka is one of those guys that you want on the court when it comes down to the wire," said Widen. "He stays calm, he plays very methodical, he's not going to break down and the other guy's going to have to win the match. The thing that he did best today was staying very aggressive. He got away from that in the first set a little bit and lost it, then he stepped up and played more aggressive and started serving really well."

Trailing by one set, Soskic rallied to win the second to force the match into the third, where he defeated New Mexico's Sergio Molina 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. It was the junior's eight win of the season as he clinched the match for the Broncos.
