Broncos Roll to 8-2 Win at ISU

4/21/2021 8:29:00 PM | Softball

POCATELLO, Idaho - Boise State raced past the Bengals Wednesday afternoon in Pocatello, Idaho, to collect an 8-2 road win. Boise State had 14 hits and three home runs, while holding ISU to four hits with one home run. The win improved the Blue and Orange to 17-16 overall heading into a road series at New Mexico this weekend.

"I'm proud of our bounce back today with our bats," said head coach Maggie Huffaker. "Jordyn (Hutchins), (Bella) Rocco and (Kelsey) Lalor obviously had big swings today, but we had a ton of great at bats and hard hit balls. This should really help us heading into the next conference series at New Mexico."

Taylor Caudill picked up her third win of the season in the circle while striking out five Bengals. Ten different Broncos had hits in the victory led by Kelsey Lalor and Ashlyn Adams with three each.

Boise State wasted little time in taking control of the game with three runs in the first. It began with Kelsey Lalor reaching on a single to center. She was followed by Ashlyn Adams who doubled to left to put runners on second and third. Then, Lalor scored from third on a ground out by Bella Rocco. With one out in the first, Jordyn Hutchins sent a two RBI homer over the left field fence to make it 3-0.

After Idaho State cut the Bronco lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third with a solo homer, Boise State answered in the top of the fourth. Lalor was the first of two Broncos that hit solo homers in the fourth with the Canadian sending her long ball over the left field wall. Rocco followed with a shot to center field to make it 5-1 after four.

Boise State extended its lead to 6-1 in the top of the sixth when Lalor sent a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Autumn Bennett across the plate from third.

Idaho State added a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Bronco advantage to four at 6-2.

Boise State responded by tacking on a couple insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Abby Bumcrot reached on a double, then came home on a Jalen Ervin double to right center. India Kelly scored later when Lalor hit her second sac fly of the game to right field to bring Kelly home from third for the final run.
