Lauren Ohlinger leads Broncos past Trailblazers with team-high 20 kills and 14 digs.

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State junior Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos to a season-opening victory over Dixie State at the Boise State Invitational with her first double-double of the season on 20 kills and 14 digs, both team highs. Boise State hit .209 and held Dixie State to .115 percent hitting on its way to winning the first, third and fourth sets. The Blue and Orange improved to 1-0 on the year with the victory in their first meeting ever versus the Western Athletic Conference's Dixie State (0-1).

It took a while for Boise State to shake the opening match jitters, but once it did the Broncos dominated the final two sets of the contest to break a 1-1 tie in the match score to claim solid victories in the last two frames.

After Dixie State had rallied to tie the match at 1-1, the Blue and Orange came back in the third to hit a match-high .448 percent. The Broncos then held the Trailblazers to a -.097 hitting percentage in the fourth as Boise State claimed the match victory 25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20.

In addition to Ohlinger's — a Preseason All-Mountain West honoree — double-double, she also had one service ace and three blocks assists to finish with a team-best 22.5 points.

Shae Duffy followed with nine kills, one service ace, two block assists and 11 points. Graduate-transfer Alli O'Harra (Boise, Idaho, Centennial HS) added six kills, one service ace, three block assists and 8.5 points. BYU transfer Makayla (Tolman) Hansen (Burley, Idaho) debuted with five kills, team-high three service aces, eight digs and four blocks (one solo) to finish with 10.5 points.

Chey Jones led the attack from the setter position with a team-high 35 assists to go with four kills and five block assists. At 6-foot-4, Jones is believed to be the tallest Bronco ever to play the setter position.

Other Broncos debuting for Boise State were Jordan Miller, a freshman from Goodyear, Ariz., freshman Vangie Camarena from Hawthorne, Calif. and San Diego Mesa transfer Sam Beschell from Solana Beach, Calif.
